The Church of St. Joseph of the Holy Family is promoting SJ LIVE with Concert Pianist Aaron Diehl on Saturday, September 30th at 6:30 pm to raise money for the St. Joseph Food Pantry. The concert will take place at St. Joseph located in the historical Harlem neighborhood at 405 W 125th St, New York, NY 10027.
SJ LIVE with Concert Pianist, Aaron Diehl, is a solo piano concert and musical journey with Jazz, Classical and Gospel works. Diehl is one of the most sought-after jazz virtuosos. His meticulously thought-out performances, collaborations, and compositions are a leading force in today’s generation of jazz contemporaries, spearheading a distinct union of traditional and fresh artistry. Diehl is an award-wining pianist and composer of four celebrated albums. From original compositions to Gershwin favorites and Jazz standards with a twist to traditional Gospel, attendees will enjoy a variety of musical styles in this seventy-minute concert.
100% of the ticket proceeds will go directly to the St. Joseph Food Pantry. Every Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm, the food pantry provides groceries to those in need in Kamora Hall (lower level of the Church.) The pantry provides bagged groceries once a month and gives out prepared meals weekly on a first come first served basis to registered members living between 110th and 129th Streets and from St. Nicholas Avenue to Broadway. Donated clothes are also given to the local community during pantry hours.
The food pantry at The Church of St. Joseph of the Holy Family opened in 1877 and is the oldest food pantry in New York. The pantry is also believed to be the oldest in United States. “Our pantry serves an immediate need in our local community. In the first six months of this year we have served 9,313 people. The benefit concert will help raise money to purchase groceries and serve more food to the hungry in our neighborhood,” says Father Nolan.
