What Is Harlem Week?

HARLEM WEEK promotes and celebrates the past, present, and future of Harlem! HARLEM WEEK is a series of Harlem events throughout the summer, that bring together all age groups and cultures to celebrate the unique and diverse essence of Harlem. This Harlem Festival & Celebration offers over 100 events throughout the months of July and August, attracting over 2 million attendees from all around the world to Harlem New York. Featuring: Outdoor and indoor music concerts, The Upper Manhattan Auto Show, Film festivals, Health Fair & 5K, Sporting events, Adult and children’s fashion shows, Youth programs and activities, Career fairs, HBCU Fair & Expo.

HARLEM WEEK’s kick-off event, on July 18, will take place at Gracie Mansion hosted by Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray and will honor the City of Memphis, Tony Award-winning actor Andre De Shields for his incredible cultural contributions and ongoing commitment to service, and the 45th Anniversary of HARLEM WEEK.

On Thursday, July 18, The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce will host the official kick-off for the annual HARLEM WEEK celebration which this year runs from July 28 – August 31 throughout Harlem and New York City. HARLEM WEEK will honor its 45-year legacy of providing entertainment, arts and culture, educational, technology, and business services to the greater Harlem community by exploring the global impact of its cultural, political, civic, and business influence throughout the country and across the world with programming tied to its theme “Our Local History Creates A Global Impact.” In addition, HARLEM WEEK joins forces with the City of Memphis to honor its bicentennial anniversary celebrating “A New Century of Soul.”

Additional HARLEM WEEK festival dates include: A Great Day in Harlem (July 28), Youth S.T.E.A.M. Hackathon (August 1), New York City Economic Development Day (August 8), NY City Senior Citizens Day (August 13), New York City Children’s Festival (August 17-18), Summer in the City (August 17), HARLEM DAY (August 18), Harlem Restaurant Week (August 19-September 1), and Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run, Health Walk & Children’s Run (August 24).

HARLEM WEEK events will take place at multiple locations, including: Marcus Garvey Park, U.S. Grant National Memorial Park, Apollo Theater, The City College of New York, Columbia University, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Harlem School of the Arts, Dance Theater of Harlem, The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, select night clubs, restaurants, houses of worship and more.

Event Description:
The Pavilion will be attribute to the promotion of marketing, showcasing and sales of first-class art, jewelry and fashions created by extraordinary designers and crafts persons throughout the diaspora with a focus on the creative culture of African Americans, Caribbean Americans, Hispanic Americans, African and International Artists and Designers. The pavilion will be an education experience providing opportunities to get one of a kind creations and designs.

Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run & Health Walk

Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run, Walk & Youth Race - Harlem Week

This 5K race honors the late Percy Sutton, who as Manhattan borough president in the 1970s championed the New York City Marathon as a five-borough event and remained a supporter of NYRR and running throughout his life; he passed away in 2009. The run celebrates historic Harlem and is part of HARLEM WEEK, one of the northeast area’s largest cultural celebrations.
